Valden is a boy who lives with his parents in a community located on the outskirts of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, in southern Africa. The region is characterized by a tropical climate that is hot and humid most of the year. The neighborhood where Valden lives is a cramped slum, whose livelihood is based on informal trade. Valden lives in a two-bedroom self-built house made of block walls, old zinc sheets. It is serviced with running water and electricity. His mother is a housewife. On the other hand, since the father is unemployed, as a source of income he collects used plastic and paper and sells it for recycling to waste management companies. The family faces great difficulty in meeting their daily needs. Nevertheless, the little income he earns is barely enough to make ends meet. Valden attends elementary school and aspires to be a doctor in the future. The family has sought assistance from the program, where Valden will certainly receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition, and recreation.
