Ruthe is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her mother, Jessica; grandmother, Maria, and with a younger sister and an uncle, in a slum area on the outskirts of a city located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Jessica and Maria work as domestic servants; the combined income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Ruthe is lively, affectionate and playful. She helps her mom by putting away items like toys and dishes. Her favorite pastimes include playing tag and hide-and-seek. She has a dog she is fond of. Ruthe enjoys good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public school and her favorite subject is Math. Her big dream is to become a doctor someday. The family is needy and through your support Ruthe and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
