Antonio is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Fabio and Edvania, and with a younger brother, in a rural community in the interior of the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Water is carried from a stream. Fabio does some subsistence farming when available (mostly growing corn and beans) and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government. Antonio is shy and calm. He helps his mom by filling the bottles with water and shopping for small items at a nearby grocery store. He loves drawing and painting. He has a dog he is fond of. Antonio is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public primary school and his favorite subject is Portuguese. His wish is to be a painter when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Antonio and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
