Shantel is a calm young girl who comes from the northern part of Kenya, Turkana county. She lives with her mother, grandmother, three brothers and four sisters. They live in a palm thatched mud hut in a communal land. They fetch their water from a community tap whose water is scarce as it is depended upon by many households. The mother is the primary caretaker of the family who is a housewife. Her grandmother is the key breadwinner of the family who depends on mat weaving and basket making activities for economical sustenance. She also practices charcoal burning and selling activity as an income supplementation project. However, the annual income generated from these activities is below 360 US dollars which is not enough to cater for family basic needs. Her mother for this reason approached the office seeking for assistance. Shantel is not enrolled in school because she has not attained school going age. She likes playing with friends and home-made dolls and shakers. When she grows up, her mother would like her to become an engineer and help other people in the community. Your support will bring a lasting change in her life.
