Helena is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Cicero and Cicera, and with two brothers and one sister, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Water is carried from an artesian well. Electricity is available. Cicero receives a small benefit from social security (he is laid off from work at this time) and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government. Helena is communicative, intelligent and playful. She helps her mom by putting her toys away. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. Helena is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends kindergarten and says that she will be a teacher when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Helena and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
