Manoel is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his maternal grandparents, Jose and Solange, and with a sister and an aunt, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The parents live and work in another area. Jose works as a day laborer in agriculture and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Manoel is friendly, intelligent and affectionate. He helps his grandma by making the beds and filling the bottles with water. His favorite pastimes include playing soccer and hide-and-seek. He has a cat he is fond of. Manoel is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a public school and likes math best. His big dream is to become a professional soccer player when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Manoel and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
