Ecuador
With your support, ChildFund has worked with children and youth in Ecuador since 1984.
Ecuador is a small country located in the northwestern corner of South America. Although it has experienced many economic advancements in recent years, there are some persistent gaps in basic services, including lack of access to health, education and housing, that can affect children's lives and opportunities for the future.
Our Work in Ecuador
Since 1984, ChildFund Ecuador has worked to help children grow up healthy, educated, skilled and safe.
ChildFund Ecuador promotes children’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being through a holistic approach that supports families and communities. For young children, we combat malnutrition by distributing nutrition and hygiene kits, connecting families to health services, and teaching parents about hygiene, nutrition and early stimulation. For children ages 6–14, we partner with schools to create healthy learning environments by installing water purifiers, leading hygiene campaigns, providing educational kits, and offering psychosocial support. For adolescents and young adults, programs like Me Quiero, Me Cuido ("Loving and Caring for Myself") equip youth with knowledge on health, violence prevention and mental well‑being while offering safe spaces and counseling. Across all stages, ChildFund integrates water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives and provides emergency health support, ensuring children grow up in safe, healthy environments that strengthen long-term community resilience.
ChildFund Ecuador works to ensure children and youth have access to quality, age‑appropriate education by supporting families, schools and communities. For young children, the Growing With You program equips parents and caregivers with training in nutrition, health, early stimulation and socioemotional development, along with educational kits that promote learning at home. For school‑aged children, ChildFund provides school kits, psychosocial support, and strengthened learning environments to help children—especially those on the move—remain in school and thrive in safe, supportive spaces. For adolescents and young adults, the ImPacto program builds technical skills, life competencies, leadership, civic engagement and future planning, preparing them for dignified employment and meaningful participation in their communities.
ChildFund Ecuador supports children and youth in developing essential life skills at every stage of growth, beginning with early childhood, when parents receive training in positive parenting, self‑care and stress management to create nurturing home environments that foster socioemotional development. For children ages 6–14, ChildFund strengthens socioemotional skills and self‑protection through activities that promote expression, decision‑making, confidence and peaceful living. As adolescents enter adulthood, programs focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, informed decision‑making and education on personal health and violence prevention—equipping young people with the tools they need to become empowered, responsible changemakers in their communities.
ChildFund places child protection at the center of its work, partnering with families, schools and communities to prevent abuse, neglect and violence across all stages of childhood and youth. In early childhood, caregivers are trained in positive parenting to create safe, nurturing home environments. For children ages 6–14, ChildFund strengthens school-based protection by training teachers and students in peaceful coexistence, communication and self‑protection skills that help children recognize and avoid risky situations. For adolescents and young adults, we support community protection networks, engage youth in local safety initiatives, and advance violence prevention while promoting inclusive environments for all. Together, these efforts build a protective ecosystem that keeps children and youth safe as they grow.
