Twelve-year-old Alan lives in Mukuru, one of the slums in Nairobi, Kenya. It's a tough place to live. Walking through the muddy streets, Alan dodges piles of trash and puddles of dirty water. Disease is rampant here, especially for children. Still, Alan dreams of something better.
"I wish one day I could have power to clean this, the whole environment, to make people take care of the environment," he says. Education is the way to make a difference, Alan adds. "I'll be with a good job, good scholarship, and I'll not live in this environment again."
