Ana is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her maternal grandmother, Maria, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The parents have separated and they have not been providing any type of financial support for their child. Maria works as a day laborer in agriculture and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Ana is lively, intelligent and active. She helps her grandma by sweeping the floor. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. Ana is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends kindergarten and says that she will be a veterinarian when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Ana and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
