Cledy, who is also known by the nickname Elimone, is a boy who lives with his mother and his sibling in a rural community in the southeastern part of Mozambique, where the main activity is subsistence farming and animal husbandry, in accordance with the conditions that the region offers in terms of soil and vegetation. Their home, which is self-built, is made of local materials, which are wood, reed, thatch and dirt. Cledy was abandoned by his father in the care of his mother, who is an unemployed woman with no income to support her family. Cledy has been through all sorts of privations, even dietary restrictions because of the financial difficulties his mother is facing, though, he attends junior elementary school. He is a healthy child, who always enjoys playing with handmade toy cars. He is from a Christian family. As a way of seeking help to ease the unfavorable life circumstances of Cledy, the mother has enrolled him in the ChildFund sponsorship program, where he will benefit from access to basic social services available in the community.
