Typhoon hits Philippines; Drought worsens in India
Typhoon Ondoy (or Ketsana) hit the Phillipines on Saturday,
September 26th. The areas that were affected are Central and Southern Luzon,
including Metro Manila. As of September 28th, there were 100 people dead, 450,00
affected and about 115,000 in evacuation centers.
Initial reports from
ChildFund Philippines show that the following areas were
affected: Metro Manila, Reina Area (Quezon Privince) and Southern Luzon (Quezon
province). No casualties have been reported in our program areas. The national
office and the community based partners are currently assessing the needs of the
population and will be responding in coordination with the local
authorities.
